Meet Katherine Beyers — Executive Director and Peer Support

Katherine is the Executive Director of Southwest Indiana Recovery and Empowerment (SWIRE). A paralegal with over a decade of experience in the legal field, she brings both professional knowledge and personal insight to her work. In long-term recovery since 2017 and with lived experience of incarceration in the Vanderburgh County Jail, Katherine understands firsthand the challenges of reentry and the power of connection. Her work is driven by compassion, purpose, and the belief that every person deserves a chance to rebuild.

“I was born and raised right here in Evansville, and this community will always be home. I’ve walked through some of its darkest corners and found my way back through recovery, grace, and the support of people who refused to give up on me. I know what it’s like to sit in a jail cell wondering if life will ever look different, and I also know what it feels like to walk back through those same doors — not in handcuffs, but with hope.

I’ve lost so many people I love — my brother, my former fiancé, my uncle, and several close friends — to addiction. Their memories are what keep me grounded in this work and remind me every day why it matters.

Becoming a mother gave me new purpose and perspective. Having my daughter taught me patience, empathy, and the kind of love that changes everything. She reminds me that every person we serve is someone’s child, deserving of the same grace and chance to begin again.

Through SWIRE, I want to help others discover that same truth — that recovery is possible, that connection saves lives, and that hope belongs to everyone.”

Recovery = Connection
